Formula 1. Monza. Fantastic.

Having been back in Italy for less than three days, I couldn’t miss the opportunity to see my first F1 race in Italy, the Italian GP at Monza!

I was fortunate enough to find a ticket and seat in grandstand 22, on the back straight just before the Parabolica curve.  This was one of the few covered seating sections in this area of the track.  Good thing too because the heat was on high that day.

Michael Schumacher got off to a great start and quickly got up to third place.  The Italian fans still showing their appreciation for the 7 time world champ as he fends off Lewis Hamilton in the McLaren.

The race was pretty much without incident although Mark Webber did have an off. Sebastian Vettel took yet another win extending his already ample lead for the championship.  For those of you who’ve never been to see a race at Monza, they have a tradition there of allowing spectators access to the track at the end of a race.

Once the mad rush for track is on, people quickly crowd the space below the podium and partake in the champagne celebration by cheering on the winners and being doused with champagne.  Unfortunately, I was too late.

Jackie Stewart was on hand, signing autographs from inside the pit lane.

That’s where my photos end.  No paddock pass this time around.  For more pics of what I didn’t see checkout http://www.formula1.com/gallery/race/2011/856/review.html.
