Watch// Favorite 11 of ’11

I watch a lot of videos.  A scary amount of videos.  Most are an insult to the camera they were shot on and then there’s these: my favorite videos of 2011.

Frank Ocean : Acura Integurl

I really like Frank Ocean and this little boy-meets-girl song.  I also like the Acura NSX they used in this video as a metaphor for substance over style.  ”Not just in it for the ride…”

CFCF :  It was never meant to be (Games {aka Ford & Lopatin} Remix)

Another video from my one of favorite Canadian artists, CFCF, that features a Vector! The little known Vector W2 prototype seen in the video was the work of Vector Design Force, founded by Gerald Wiegart.  With very few official specs of the W2 available, the claimed 230mph top speed propels the car and it’s occupants through time in this Mad Science-meets-Blade Runner video.  The Vector name has been recently revived by Vector Motors who are working on an new car, the WX8.

Running on Empty by Ross Ching

This past summer’s freeway 405 closure in LA created “Carmageddon”, the traffic nightmare caused by commuters forced to detour around the construction site.  For creative types like Ross Ching, the empty road created the perfect opportunity to capture the landscape at its most serene.

Evan Voytas : Tomorrow Night We’ll Go Anywhere

Kate Moss + 60′s Mustang coupe.  ’nuff said.

Lamborghini Aventador by Sehsucht

A seemingly tranquil drive across the desert turns ugly when the evil forces of Nature show up to spoil all the fun.  Nature usually wins unless you’re in a Lambo. See more from Sehsucht at vimeo.com/sehsucht

Liberty Vintage Motorcycles by Etsy

A look inside Adam Cramer‘s Philadelphia motorcycle shop where he works, breathing new life into vintage bikes.  He unashamedly gives us his perspective on work, money and the dying art of skilled labor in America.  The cigarette smoking, grease covered Cramer, with his one way view on self-reliance, then shows us a touch of class by playing us out on the piano.  Talent and skill make for a great combination.    See more from Etsy at vimeo.com/etsy

Address is Approximate by The Theory

A wonderful story about a toy that can dream.  In this case, a dream of escaping life as an office desktop toy and taking a road trip across the country.  With the help of Google Street View and a fellow toy car, his dream becomes a reality in this fantastical, time-lapse short film.  See more from The Theory at vimeo.com/user4317458

Blitz R60/2 – The great Escape by Hush

The themes of nature and escapism continue here in this great little film about a man, his bike and a winter day’s snowfall.  Shot in a cinematic style that reminds me a lot of Lars Von Trier’s ‘Melancholia‘, the scene is set on an majestic estate where we find a man peering out of a window, watching the snow come down on his stoic motorcycle.  The bike is a vintage BMW R60/2, blacked-out by custom shop Blitz.  It’s allure, too strong to resist.  See more from Hush at vimeo.com/user5657192

The Wild One by Bravnicar

Recipe for a great video:  Take a hot model, put her in a classic car, add a some good ‘ol rock and roll and edit the whole thing with a sense of humor.  Half this video feels like your in the car with her while the rest makes me feel like child staring into an backlit oven window, licking my chops at what’s cooking inside. Mechanical Synfonica by FORMAT67.net

While harmonizing the sounds of V8 engines and classical music might seem a bit cliché, no one can deny the high production quality in this video by filmmakers/car enthusiasts at FORMAT67.net.

The Bond by Depth of Speed

Depth of Speed is the work of a husband and wife team traveling across the United States for one year, documenting any auto/moto story they find interesting.  In ‘The Bond’, they find a great example of a BMW 2002 and look at the connection between it and its owner.  For traveling and editing on the road, I give high praise to the quality of their work.
