Toronto’s boutique motorcycle shop, Town Moto, makes Time Magazine’s list, “A Little Place I Know: 24 of the World’s Best Kept Secrets”.
You know you’re on to something when Time Magazine puts your name on a list that includes ancient cities, marvels of nature and some of the best, undiscovered eateries on the planet. A week ago, just before the Time article was released, Town Moto was still a secret – to me, at least. So I arranged a visit to the store and a sit down with co-owner, Andrew McCracken, to see what’s what.
Motorcycle News‘s road tester, Michael Neeves, has a go on Ducati’s new Hypermotard.
Testing the bike at the members-only, Ascari circuit in Spain, Neevesy packs a lot of info and opinion into this brief 2:40 video. Most notably though, he admits that this new, water-cooled, four-valve 821cc motor isn’t as punchy down in the revs as the old bike and that it’s not suitable for fast roads (wha’?) or touring. I agree that touring on that seat isn’t the brightest idea your ass has ever heard but if you read the blog last week, you’re aware that there’s a HyperStrada version that will be released alongside the standard and SP models, with touring very much in mind (albeit with a different saddle). As far as not being suitable for fast roads, I beg to differ. This class of moto is about fun more than anything. Although it’s not as speed focused as other models in Ducati’s superbikes, it’s still plenty fun on the twisties as it is to blast down straights. While I was living in Milan, I saw plenty of guys using the Hypermotard as their daily, urban commuter bike – another environment that suits this bike well. As such, this bike can definitely be your one-bike fits all solution and is no more a toy than any other bike in Ducati’s range.
